Health Care Reform and Expansion

State and federal governments have considered and debated proposals on reforming or expanding health care coverage, which have ranged from incremental tinkering to drastic change. Examples in California include the current statewide health care proposals from the Governor and state legislators, universal health coverage, coverage for all children and an employer mandate for health insurance. The impetus for statewide expansion programs has come from the local level at times, such as the effort by the Children’s Health Initiative of Greater Los Angeles and similar coalitions throughout the state to provide uninsured county children ages 0 to 18 with coverage.
